Punto Banco is slightly more than a fancy name for baccarat. The ‘Punto’ stands for ‘Player’ while ‘Banco’ is synonymous for ‘Bank’.

With a smaller house edge on the Banco hand, you should bet on this hand all the time. The advantage on the Banco hand comes from the fact that it’s cards are drawn second based upon the outcome of the Punto hand.
Players can however and still try to increase their winnings by betting strategies. These strategies attempt to take advantage of streaks of wins or losses by varying the amount of bets played on each on the hands. One such money management betting system is the 1324 Betting Strategy. Simply put, you start by betting with 1 unit. Based on your budget and table minimums, one unit could be equal to $1 $2 $5 $25 or more. If you win the game with the 1 unit bet, then bet 3 units on the next game. If you win with 3 units then bet 2 units. If you win with 2 units then bet 4 units. After any loss or 4 unit bet you start over with 1 unit bets.
The 1324 or a 1326 betting sytem may work for you over the relatively short term. However, over the long term statistics says that the house edge will prevail and you will lose an avergage of at least 1.06% of your total bets.
Punto Banco House Edge
The profit to the house on Punto Banco is slim. The house edge for the punto hand is only 1.24% and the hous edge for the banco hand is even smaller at 1.06% which makes Punto Banco an attractive game for gamblers to play.
When the tie bet pays offs at 8 to 1, it has lousy player payback with a 14.4% house edge. If you can find a game that pays offs ties at 9 to 1 thenthe house edge is reduced to 4%, still not as good as the basic Punto or Banco hand bets.
The Basic Rules of Punto Banco
Cards values
A ten, jack, queen and king count as 0. An ace counts as 1 and all other cards are face value.
Two Cards Are Dealt
The dealer starts Punto Banco by dealing two face up cards to each hands. The first card is dealt to the Punto hand and the next card is dealt to the Banco hand. The rules of Punto Banco then determines whether or not the Punto hand receives another card.
Card Values of the First Two Cards
If either the Punto or Banco hand has a card value of 8 or 9 with the first two cards, then the game is over and that hand is the winner. If the value of the Punto hand is 0 to 5 then another card is drawn. If the value of the Punto hand is 6 or 7 then no added card is taken.
The Banco hand plays next according to the same rules for the Punto hand – 0 to 5 take a card, 6 or 7 take no cards and ‘stands’ ‘pat’.
If A Third Card Is Drawn
The Banco hand takes another card or stands depending upon what third card the Punto hand receives
- If the Player drew a 2 or 3, the Banker stands if he has 5–7 or draws if he has 0 to 4
- If the Player drew a 4 or 5, the Banker stands if he has 6–7 or draws if he has 0 to 5
- If the Player drew a 6 or 7, the Banker stands if he has 7 or draws if he has 0 to 6
- If the Player drew an 8, the Banker stands if he has 3–7 or draws if he has 0 to 2
- If the Player drew an ace, nine, ten or face-card the Banker stands if he has 4 to 7 or draws if he has 0 to 3
If both hands have the same value then a tie is called and no one wins or loses.
